SubtitleGenerator (also referred to as ClearCue in the product) is a browser-based caption tool. This notice explains what stays on your device, what we process to provide features you choose, and who helps us run the service.
Your video stays on your device
Your original video file is read in the browser for preview, waveform display, caption editing, and export. Finished burned-in video and subtitle file downloads are produced in your browser.
We do not upload your source video to our servers for storage, and we do not keep browser-rendered export files on our systems.
What leaves your device when you use AI features
To generate or improve captions, the browser extracts an audio-only file and sends that audio to our API, which forwards it to a speech-to-text provider. We do not keep that audio after the transcription request finishes.
- Standard transcription uses our default speech provider (currently Deepgram), with the spoken language you select.
- High Accuracy (optional, Pro+) sends audio to an alternate provider (currently OpenAI Whisper) and uses more processing minutes.
- Range re-transcribe sends only the audio slice for the time range you choose.
- Translate sends subtitle text (not your video) to a translation provider (DeepL by default; OpenAI may be used for some languages or when configured).
Local-only edits—caption density changes from stored ASR, Fix Loop accept/resolve, timing trims, styles, animate, fonts, layout, and undo/redo—do not re-upload your media.
Account, billing, and project data we store
If you sign in or purchase, we store what we need to run your account, including:
- Profile details from sign-in (for example Google account email and name when you use Google sign-in)
- Plan status, processing-minute balances, purchase and usage records needed for billing and entitlements
- Optional workspace preferences and recent activity summaries shown in Account
Draft projects (video blob, extracted audio, cues, timings, and style choices) can be saved in your browser’s local storage / IndexedDB so you can continue editing on the same device. That draft data stays on your device unless you clear site data.
Editor preferences such as spoken language, High Accuracy on/off, canvas and safe-zone settings may also be remembered in local browser storage.
Cookies and anonymous sessions
We use a small anonymous cookie so guests can try the product and so Free minute balances can merge into your account after you sign in. Signed-in sessions use authentication cookies managed by our auth stack. We do not use advertising trackers to sell your personal information.
Service providers
We share limited data with processors only as needed to operate the product you use:
- Speech-to-text providers (audio for transcription)
- Translation providers (subtitle text you ask to translate)
- Payment processor (PayPal) for checkout and subscription events
- Sign-in provider (Google) when you choose Google login
- Hosting and database infrastructure that runs the app and billing
Those providers process data under their own terms and security practices. We do not sell personal information for advertising.
Processing minutes and edits
Transcription, High Accuracy, range re-transcribe, and translation may consume processing minutes on your plan. Undoing an edit in the editor restores local caption content; it does not refund minutes already used for a completed AI request. Caption density rebuilds from stored ASR on your device do not consume processing minutes.
Your choices
You can stop using the service, clear browser site data to remove local drafts and preferences, cancel a subscription from Account (subject to the plan rules shown there), and contact us about account or privacy questions. Some billing records may be retained as required for accounting, fraud prevention, or law.
